A Radiohead remix

Stubs!
I love when someone can take an existing medium/experience and extend it. Embrace a new medium and not just repurpose, but take advantage of what that new medium has to offer. Radiohead is selling stubs [isolated instrument tracks] for the song ‘Reckoner, which is a track off of their latest album, via the iTunes store. Fans are then invited to remix the song elements into completely new tracks, and share them in a variety of ways, one of which is to submit them to the www.radioheadremix.com site itself.
My Slant
The Gratefuldead and Radiohead have often been compared to one-another as they both have rabid fans that are willing to travel all over the globe to see them live. Fans that wear the number of shows they have seen like a badge of honor. As a ‘thank-you’ to their fans the Dead allowed fans to tape directly into their soundboards to get pristine quality recordings. Radiohead is doing a similar ‘thank-you’ for their core fans.. Giving them a completely new way to enjoy their music and become directly involved in it. This will be the second time that Radiohead is going down the remix our music road, and the past is any indication, then this one should be quite successful. A great example of appealing to your core audience.

Yup you are correct. I just did a little research to check that out. Not only did they let people hook up to the soundboard for free, but they also told them that if they were going to distribute copies, it had to be for no profit. Very cool.
